How does this work exactly? - Case studies

1) Becky’s pantry is crammed full of stuff. She can’t find what she needs and has lost track of what is in there in the first place. Becky hires me for an organizing session.

  • We start by pulling everything out. Yes, everything! Becky wipes down the shelves while I sort like with like.

  • We get rid of expired and duplicate items, as well as extra packaging and anything that just won’t be used again.

  • We put the keepers back in the pantry, storing breakfast items together and corralling snacks in lidless plastic bins.

  • We make a note of which containers she could buy when they go on sale.

  • We label everything so that all members of the household know where things go.

2) Gemma’s going through a life transition, starting a new job after her divorce, and she feels weighed down by clutter all over her home. She saw Marie Kondo’s show on Netflix and wants to conduct a KonMari® tidying festival. She doesn’t know where to start, so she calls me for help.

  • Gemma is committed to tidying up and, after some reflection, has a clear idea of what she wants her life to look like.

  • I help her sort through her belongings. We start with her clothes, then move on to books, papers, and miscellaneous items, saving sentimental objects for last. I help Gemma figure out which items truly enhance her life (by bringing her joy and/or by being useful) and how to store them properly. I remove most of the discards from her home promptly.

  • After several sessions, Gemma’s home feels like her again! She feels relaxed and in control, ready for the next stage in her life.
